August 2013 Blog Income Report

Every month since November 2007 I have written an income report which documents all the methods I have used to make money over the past month, I do this because I want to help people to make money online like I do and believe that showing people what I earn is the best way to get them interested. Unlike other blogs I will list EVERY method that pays me, whether it is big Bucks or only a couple of Cents.

When I first started this I made just over $5 in my first month, now although I don’t put in as many hours as I should I am making $800+ in what could be considered “spare time”.

Visitor Count & Page Impressions

The unique visitor count for August stands at 44,578, which is a decrease of 5,837 from the month of July.

The page impression count for August stands at 141,629, which is a increase of 3,877 from the month of July.

On average each visitor looked at 3,17 and the bounce rate has decreased from 32.79% to 22.57%.

– I cheated a little bit last month, I counted the traffic for MakeMoneyLessons.com AND the traffic for INeedDiscipline.com, I won’t be doing this next month as I am now redirecting INeedDiscipline.com directly to this blog.

– I was a bit worried about what the traffic would be as I have been slowly moving everything over to the new blog, but I was surprised to see that the drop in unique traffic wasn‘t as low as I was expecting, and I still saw a rise in page views.

  3. Your traffic has obviously increase significantly over the few months. This is just awesome, amazing traffic, but I think your income from the blog is pretty low as compared to the traffic. Why don’t you start using Google Adsense?

    • Adsense kicked me out of their network for “maybe” breaking their rules in the future.

The reason I don’t make more from the ads with the spike in traffic is because the traffic is coming from parts of the world that advertisers might not be as interested in. My traffic comes from Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and some South American countries. West Europe, UK and US are rather lower down on the list.

  4. Hi Dean,
A good economical results months, many big bloggers ha July and August as their worst performance and the financial months, well done.

  5. Wow, congratulations on your earnings. I have tried postjoint some few months ago when my website (moneyhomeblog.com) was pretty new and it was rejected. Just waiting and hoping to apply again in a few months time.

    • It depends what part of the income you are looking at: for example the reason I don’t make more from the ads with the spike in traffic is because the traffic is coming from parts of the world that advertisers might not be as interested in. My traffic comes from Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and some South American countries. West Europe, UK and US are rather lower down on the list.

As for the writing (freelance and sponsored), I don’t charge a lot of money for the articles I write because the times I have put my prices up I have seen the work completely dry up.

  7. The trick of income reports is that they can become a real huge magnet for visitors but when they see big numbers. And how to get these big numbers is a big question and hard work.

    • Very true, I like writing this monthly post because it is always one of the popular things on the blog and always gets picked up by the blogs who compile lists of income reports. 🙂

  8. I love reading about people’s income online. It seems like you are doing a great job and to top it off it is all done on a part-time basis.

Some of the methods that you talk about, I have never heard of. Great job and thanks for sharing the methods you use to make an income online.

    • Thank you for stopping by. 🙂 I will be writing a proper review of PostJoint soon which I hope will be very useful for you and many others, it won’t be a glowing review, however, as I’ll be touching on PostJoint’s inefficiency to ban people who don’t pay once you publish their posts.

  9. Hey Dean, 800+ is quite decent an amount, don’t you think. And I too keep wondering how you do it. You say that you don’t put it much effort as you did earlier. Makes me guess that Lady Luck seems to be favoring you now. Make hay while the sun shines – best of luck ahead.

    • I do put effort in, but I don’t putt as much in as I really should. I reckon I spend about 3 or 4 hours a day working, I need to at least double that. 🙂 Some days I work like a trooper and then some days I will put only a couple of hours in, need to stop doing that.

  10. Cool breakdown. I love to see all the numbers 🙂

I have never heard of postjoint. Will have to check that out. Thanks Dean!

    • PostJoint was a pretty cool find, if they could be more strict on the people who don’t pay after you publish their posts then I think it could be an even better site. Review coming soon. 🙂

  11. Hey Dean you are really doing an awesome job and if you don’t mind what happen to your old website ineeddiscipline between thanks for sharing your earning

    • Nothing has really ‘happened’ to it, I just moved everything to this new domain, after six years I thought it was time that I got a domain that was actually related to making money online. 🙂 I have redirected the domain (which I intend to keep) so I don’t lose traffic. 🙂

  12. Hi Dean
Your traffic is awesome. Could you send me some tips how to increase? Unique visitors are the backbone of your site. Your income is reasonable I was wondering what about Google Ad-sense is it missing here.By the way i can able to know what are the search terms is better here. Thanks for posting such a awesome and honest article here.

    Regards,
    Olivier

    • Hi,

I will try and do a more in-depth post about this later, but essentially I continuously do the following every day to build backlinks and increase traffic:

      – Blog commenting
      – Guest posting
      – Forum posting (with your link in your sig)
      – article directories
      – web directories

Adsense is not here because they banned me because they believe I MIGHT pose a threat to their rules in the future. Basically they banned me for MAYBE breaking their rules in the future.
