No matter how much money we manage to make from our blogs there is a good chance that you would like to be able to earn more. It is quite staggering when you think that the majority of blog owners out there are not monetising their blogs to their full potential, there is so much more money left on the table that goes un-noticed.
Here are some ways to make money with your blog that you might not have thought of or tried yet:
1. Sponsored Posts
Regular readers to this blog will know that I make a nice amount of money each month writing sponsored posts. The premise is quite simple: an advertiser pays you to write a blog post on your blog about a specific topic and they place a link in it to their web site. Many critics of this method say that it misleads readers, but the whole thing has changed now (many advertisers don’t want you to mention their company) so the argument holds no water.
2. Direct Advertising
Many bloggers will put up ad units from 3rd party advertising networks such as Adsense, Smowtion, Media.net, and others, but more than a few don’t bother to look at direct/private advertising, possibly because they think it is just too time-consuming for them to bother with.
You could always use sites like Publicity Clerks or Buy Sell Ads, to make the process a lot easier.
This is the kind of thing that I don’t think will work on a blog that is trying to make money, but if you are running a blog and are just looking to make enough to pay the hosting bill then this is something to consider, there is a great plugin called Buy Me A Beer (there are alternatives for coffee fans) which links your donations straight to your PayPal account.
4. Membership Site
A membership site is a great idea if you are offering something that people will pay to access, you basically charge people a monthly or yearly fee to gain access to content on your blog, it is a rather time-consuming method though, but rewarding if you have content that is in demand.
5. Digital Products
If you have a bunch of good content then why not put it into an eBook and sell it from your site? You could even go so far as to place it on sites like Ejunkies and ClickBank and pay people a small amount to help sell your eBook.
Do you have a skill that you could sell through your blog? Through my personal blog I offer a freelance article service and it is becoming rather popular. You might not want to stop at writing, you could offer SEO help, image creating, or something completely different, create a page for it on your blog and let people know about it.
Have you tried any of these methods in the past? Or are you looking to try them in the not-too-distant future? Drop a comment and let us know your experiences.
